Position Title Development Officer II - Athletics
Job Description

The Development Officer is responsible for identification and personal solicitation of prospective donors. Develop marketing strategies and campaign materials. Prepare proposals for foundations and corporate prospects. The Development Officer will report to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement.

Work performed includes:

Oversee and conduct major fundraising and/or comprehensive campaigns within assigned division.

Engage in identification, research and personal solicitation for assigned major prospects, including preparing proposals for individuals, foundations and corporate prospects and providing tracking and follow-up.

Engage in donor stewardship including, but not limited to: personal contact, appropriate donor recognition, invitations, assist in account updates, assist scholarship office, colleges/departments in updating scholarship records.

Respond to inquiries regarding donations.

Assist donors with establishing funds/accounts, i.e. scholarships, professorships, chairs.

Maximize use of the donor database including but not limited to: adding records, updating records, conducting donor research and tracking monthly activity with major prospects.

Assist with the planning and preparation of special events, alumni events and Foundation Board meetings and attend as many events as possible.

Assist with development and operation of the advisor committees for assigned division.

Other duties as assigned.

Necessary Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Two years of related experience in fundraising, marketing, development, communication or public relations.

Understanding of information systems and databases.

Experience working with volunteers.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, effective listening and persuasive writing.

Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record; must be able to obtain a State of Texas Vehicle Operator’s license within 30 days of employment and must qualify to operate a vehicle within the TAMUS guidelines. Ability to maintain TAMUS approval.

Willingness to work some evenings and weekends and be willing to work special hours, as needed. Some travel involved.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in Development in a higher education setting.

Experience using Raiser’s Edge database.
