Job Description

The Executive Director, Admissions will oversee all functions related to recruitment and enrollment of new students to West Texas A&M University, with particular focus on growing transfer student enrollment in support of the university strategic plan. In addition, the Executive Director, Admissions will supervise the Office of International Education and the Office of Scholarship Services. The director will hire, train and supervise a team for recruiting and enrollment functions, manage the budget, and coordinate all activities associated with the functions of the Office of Admissions.

Work performed includes:

Directs a comprehensive, integrated, and data-driven recruitment, admissions, and enrollment plan to recruit and retain freshman and transfer students.

Supervises staff in representing the University at high schools and Community College fairs for designated territories, as well as during their guiding of prospective students through the admissions and enrollment processes.

Provides effective budget management and oversees fiscal operations of departments by establishing cost controls.

Develops the overall freshman and transfer strategic recruitment, admissions, and enrollment plan. Facilitates the organization and implementation of recruitment and admissions strategies to meet enrollment goals and oversees the admissions process for freshman and transfer students. Communicates the benefits of an education at the University to prospective students and families.
Manages strategic planning and programs to support the strategic plan for enrollment management.

Leads the development and oversight of communications, promotions and public relations for Admissions, Scholarship Services and International Student Office.

Develops, directs and evaluates process compliance and internal controls.

Develops plans that enhance student diversity on the University campus.

Supervises Scholarship Services Office and International Student Office.

Other duties as assigned.

Necessary Qualifications

Master’s degree in applicable field or equivalent of education and experience.

Seven years of related experience in college admissions programs, budgets, and planning, including supervision of office personnel.

Must have a valid driver’s license and an approved driving record; must be able to obtain a State of Texas vehicle operator’s license within 30 days of employment and must qualify to operate a vehicle within the TAMUS guidelines. Ability to maintain TAMUS approval.

Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.

Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding.

Effective interpersonal skills.

Ability to implement a recruitment plan and demonstrated commitment to diversity.

Ability to supervise related functional units (Scholarship Services, International Student Office).

Minimum Skills Required No Minimum Skills Test Required
Preferred Qualifications

Active membership in relevant professional associations (AACRAO, TACRAO, SACRAO etc.)

Knowledge of student information systems (particularly Colleague), and enrollment management software (particularly EMAS).
